⛱️ Summer Squeeze (#114)

👋🏽 Hello, Future You.

It's time for a little end-of-summer break. I like to take a moment to breathe before the last quarter of the year. It's the busiest time of year for my consulting practice. The end-of-the-year always unearths client wild ideas. It's fun, but I've learned. I need to reserve space for the unknown.

I’ll be out of your inbox for a few weeks.

In the meantime, some money-related bits for you.

  • I enjoyed this listen, Laziness Does Not Exist (The Next Big Idea). I especially love the history lesson of how "always be productive" came to be in the United States. The bottomline: it's okay to do nothing. I have also been thinking a lot about what it means to say I can only work four hours a day.
  • I have been working hard on replacing the habit of grabbing my closest screen with grabbing a paper book. I've learned a lot in this time, including when I'm not staring at a screen, I have a lot of time to read. I have a new, thriving relationship with the library as a result. I have been flying through books. Every time I check out a book, I get a receipt and it states how much I've saved by checking my books. So far, I have saved $136.99 and have at least $1,000 on hold. Pretty awesome.
  • I know this not a popular opinion, but I'm a lukewarm fan of the Olympics. I knowwwww. Wet blanket. But, I cannot stop reflecting on the environmental impact and the overstatement of the economic benefits. If you're curious, this is an interesting long read from the Council on Foreign Relations, The Economics of Hosting the Olympic Games.
